It all started with a mouse
If you are a gamer or know a gamer, you will probably recognize the iconic three-headed snake logo. It’s a brand that’s loved by over 150 million users, and there’s a good reason for that.
Razer was founded in 2005 with headquarters in San Diego, California, and Singapore. Robert Krakoff and Min-Liang Tan came up with an idea to launch and sell gaming mouses. Over the years, they have grown into being the leading gaming equipment brand. So, not just mouses. Everything. Gaming laptops, gaming tablets, keyboards, audio devices, PC peripherals, and gamepads.
Just in their second year in the business, they collaborated with Microsoft and designed the Habu gaming mouse and Reclusa gaming keyboard. They also became sponsors for an esports team called Fnatic. Their brand new gaming mouse became the bestselling gaming mouse in the whole world. It’s was sure a promising start for continuos events of success. During their years in the business, they have collaborated with other big names, such as A Bathing Ape, Couragedj, and others.
Razer is constantly developing and improving and keeping their customer’s attention.
Razer: Social responsibility
So, the quality of their products is great. But what about social responsibility? In 2020 Razer founded Razer Healthy Initiative because of the global pandemic, setting up a surgical mask production line in Singapore, also donating masks to healthcare organizations, governments, and individuals.
Razer also holds quarterly CSR initiatives to contribute to the fight against climate change. They also have a donation matching program to support employee donations to environmental causes.
Razer: sustainability
Is gaming good for the environment? Well, not really. Just only US gaming platforms represent 34 terawatt-hours a year in energy usage, which results in carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to over 5 million cars. And Razer is aware of it.
Razer has come up with the movement #GoGreenWithRazer. As the corporate have stated: “We play hard, we play fair, we want to ensure the world remains an area we can all continue to play in.” They encourage their customers to take part by joining the #GoGreenWithRazer. But what does it really mean?
First of all, their products. Razer is adopting sustainable product design, manufacturing, and fulfillment.
Second of all, their employees. Every change starts within yourself. It’s a mindset that Razer has, therefore they practice what they preach at work and at their offices. They are committed to reducing and eradicating the use of single-use plastics across their offices and switching to the use of recycled and recyclables by the end of 2021.
The company also aims to reduce air travel for business purposes to lower its carbon footprint.
Thirdly, their community. Razer encourages not just their customers, but also their business partners to think a bit more green. They have partnered up with Conservation International to save trees. For every Sneki Snek eco-merchandise sold, Razer contribute to Conservation International in order to save 10 trees. Together with their fans, they have achieved their initial goal of saving 100,000 trees. Now the total goal is to save 1 million trees.
And finally, the future. Razer does not just think about the moment. They are supporting and investing in the environment and sustainability startups. Razer wants to support the growth of these companies, in order for the next generations to have a brighter future.
